US and Iran Reach Deal to End 15-Week Conflict
The United States and Iran have reached a framework deal. It is expected to end their 15-week conflict.
The deal should reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Trump said the strait will reopen as part of the agreement.
The deal is expected to be signed on Friday June 19. Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif helped arrange the deal.
The framework includes a 60-day period of detailed technical talks. But the US and Iran have different accounts of what those talks will cover.
The deal puts off the hardest issues for later talks. Reports say the US is lifting its naval blockade of Iranian ports.
The US is also releasing $25 billion in frozen Iranian funds as part of the deal. The Group of Seven nations met on June 15 and discussed the Strait of Hormuz.
The UK, France, Germany and Italy called for the strait to reopen. They also said stopping Iran from getting nuclear weapons must stay a top priority.
