US and Iran to Meet After Weekend Strikes

President Trump said the US and Iran would meet Tuesday in Qatar. The talks follow a weekend of strikes between the two countries.

Iran attacked a cargo ship near Oman on Thursday. The US then struck Iranian missile and drone sites on Friday and Saturday.

Iran hit back at US bases in Kuwait and Bahrain. Both sides accused each other of breaking a ceasefire deal.

That deal was meant to keep the Strait of Hormuz open. It was also meant to lead to peace talks.

The exchange of fire put the ceasefire at serious risk. Iran did not confirm the talks. But Iran said it was still consulting with Qatar.

Klear Note The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow waterway between Iran and Oman. One-third of world's oil passes through it. Disruptions there affect global energy prices and shipping.
