US Bans Canadian Dairy, Alcohol and Motorcycles
The United States announced a ban on Canadian goods. The ban covers dairy products, most alcoholic drinks and motorcycles.
It starts on September 29. That is about three weeks after the announcement.
President Trump also moved to block some Canadian autos, dairy and alcohol imports. The US says Canada restricts American alcohol, dairy and auto sales.
Washington used a trade law called Section 338 to act. The US will also raise tariffs to 50% on other Canadian goods.
This follows Canada's own tariffs on US goods. Canada's tariffs hit about $20 billion of US goods.
They took effect Tuesday. Canada says its tariffs match US tariffs exactly.
Trade talks between the two countries collapsed on August 21. That happened after earlier US tariffs on Canadian imports.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney responded to the situation. He said Canada will quickly reduce reliance on the US.
