US Court Blocks Alabama Maps Over Race Bias

A US federal court has blocked Alabama's voting district maps. Judges found the maps were drawn to work against Black voters.

Alabama cannot use the maps in the 2026 elections. The blocked maps would have removed one area where Black voters are the majority.

The court ordered Alabama to keep using a different map. That map already includes two areas where Black voters are the majority.

It was used in the 2024 elections. Alabama is likely to appeal the ruling. The case could reach the Supreme Court.
