US Federal Reserve Holds Rates but Changes Its Statement

The US Federal Reserve kept interest rates the same on Wednesday. The Federal Open Market Committee released a new policy statement.

The statement's wording changed notably from the April version. The new statement was much shorter at just 130 words.

The April statement had 341 words. The new statement removed language that had pointed toward future rate cuts.

This was the first meeting chaired by Kevin Warsh the new Federal Reserve chairman. Sources say the updated rate outlook removed the expectation of a cut in 2026.

It now signals a possible rate rise instead. The median funds rate projection is 3.8% by year-end.

Reports say inflation rose to 4.2% annually in May. Higher energy prices linked to the Iran conflict drove part of that rise.

Klear Note The Federal Reserve controls US interest rates. Higher rates make borrowing money more expensive for people and businesses. The Fed changes rates to manage inflation and economic growth.
