US House Passes $1.15 Trillion Defense Bill Amid Iran Dispute
The US House passed a $1.15 trillion defense bill. The vote was 216 to 212.
The bill is called the National Defense Authorization Act. It includes money for the ongoing war with Iran.
It also includes parts of Trump's election overhaul bill. That bill is called the SAVE America Act.
These voter ID rules were added through a process called MIRVing. Democrats opposed the bill.
They said supporting it meant supporting the war with Iran. Six Democrats voted for the bill anyway.
Seven Republicans voted against it. This showed the vote was not split cleanly by party.
The bill sets aside money specifically for military operations against Iran. Democrat Adam Smith said total defense spending is nearing $1.6 trillion.
This includes Iran war funding. The bill also gives service members a 5 to 7% pay raise. It renames the Department of Defense as the Department of War.
