US House Rejects Cutting Israel Military Aid
The US House of Representatives voted down a plan to cut military aid to Israel. The final vote was 314 to 104.
The plan was proposed by Representative Thomas Massie. It would have blocked all State Department funding to Israel.
This includes $3.3 billion in yearly military aid. The money was set under a 2016 agreement.
Over 100 House Democrats voted for the plan. One Republican also supported it.
This showed a shift in Democratic support for Israel. The vote revealed splits within the Democratic Party.
House leader Hakeem Jeffries voted against the plan. But another top Democrat Katherine Clark voted for it.
This showed disagreement even among top party leaders. The vote was largely symbolic.
It still would have needed Senate approval. President Trump would likely have vetoed it too.
