US Job Growth Falls Short in September

US employers added 29,000 jobs in September. The jobs report came out Friday.

Economists had expected more jobs. The unemployment rate rose from 4.1% to 4.2%.

Axios reported that part of the rise came from new job seekers. The report also cut earlier job gains for July and August.

The cuts totaled 60,000 jobs. July now shows a loss of 10,000 jobs.

August now shows a gain of 133,000 jobs. Friday's report is the last one before the November 3 elections. The elections will decide if Trump's Republicans keep full control of Congress.

Klear Note — The unemployment rate counts people without jobs who are actively seeking work. Job estimates can be revised as more complete data becomes available.
