US Keeps Striking Iran as Hormuz Dispute Grows
The US military launched new strikes on Iran late Sunday. This was the third round of US strikes this week.
US Central Command said it hit about 140 Iranian targets overnight. Reports say over 300 targets have been hit this week total.
The strikes followed Iran firing on a container ship in the Strait of Hormuz. The ship was flagged to Cyprus.
This came after an earlier ceasefire broke down. President Trump had declared it over earlier in the week.
Iran responded with attacks on US facilities and regional allies. Iran fired toward Jordan and other Gulf states.
The United Arab Emirates and Qatar reported they intercepted missiles. Iran claims the Strait of Hormuz is now closed.
The US insists the shipping channel remains open. US Central Command says commercial ships still pass through the strait.
Iran said the attacks make diplomacy pointless. Oil prices jumped amid the fighting and the dispute over the strait's status.
