The US military said it intercepted an Iranian missile barrage late Tuesday into Wednesday, July 29. The attack ended a pause in direct air strikes between Iran and the United States.

Jordan intercepted five Iranian missiles the same day, as part of the broader attack. Reports indicate Saudi Arabia also intercepted drones separately.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards confirmed the strike. They said it was in response to what they called "the aggressive actions" of the United States.

The Iranian attack followed proxy group assaults on US bases and Saudi energy infrastructure. That prompted the US and Saudi Arabia to strike Iran-backed militias in Iraq.

According to reports, those strikes killed at least 20 Iraqi fighters and wounded 32 others across seven provinces. The confrontation follows a wider Iran war that began in February 2026.

Reports say the recent pause in fighting came through mediation efforts. Iran has also warned it will take "any action" to maintain control of the Strait of Hormuz, according to reports.
