US Senate Panel Advances Blanche Attorney General Nomination
Todd Blanche's nomination for attorney general moved forward today. The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 12-10 to approve it.
It now goes to a full Senate vote. Blanche agreed to cancel a $1.8 billion fund.
The fund was meant to fight political bias in government. Trump had set it up.
The deal was made with Senators John Cornyn and Thom Tillis. It helped win the committee's support.
Cornyn said he had no choice but to trust Blanche. Blanche declared the fund is now dead.
Blanche needs 50 votes to be confirmed by the full Senate. Republicans hold only a slim 53-47 majority there.
Senator McConnell is away for medical reasons. This means Blanche can only lose two Republican votes. Senators Murkowski, Cassidy and Collins have not yet said they will support him.
