US Strikes Iran After Attack on Three Navy Ships
Iran attacked three US Navy ships in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday. The US military then struck Iranian military sites in response.
US strikes hit sites in Bandar Abbas and on Qeshm Island. The US said it targeted sites responsible for the attack on its ships.
The US called the Iranian attack unprovoked. But Iran disputed this.
Iran said the US broke a ceasefire by targeting an Iranian oil tanker and a second ship. Iran also said US strikes hit civilian areas near Qeshm Island and nearby coasts.
President Trump told ABC News the ceasefire is still in effect. He called the US strikes "just a love tap." The ceasefire started on April 8 as a two-week truce.
Trump later extended it on his own. The US military confirmed Iran had attacked US forces over 10 times since the ceasefire began.
