US Supreme Court Justice Jackson Criticizes Emergency Docket

Ketanji Brown Jackson is a US Supreme Court justice. She criticized the court's handling of emergency cases.

Jackson spoke at UDC School of Law in Washington, D.C. She spoke hours after Donald Trump filed his latest request. Jackson said the emergency process gives some people a "fast pass." She said this skips normal review steps.

She also criticized judges using a "shadow docket" system. This means rulings made quickly without full public hearings.

Trump's request asked to lift a judge's block. That block stopped a policy on sending migrants to third countries.

Reports say this was Trump's 40th emergency request. That was since he returned to office.

Jackson ordered a response by Monday. She had not yet ruled on the request herself.

The Trump administration says these requests fix lower courts overstepping their power. Critics say the requests can let unlawful actions continue.

Jackson made similar criticisms earlier this year. That speech was at Yale Law School in April.
