US Supreme Court Rejects Missouri Congressional Map Appeal

The US Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected an emergency appeal from Missouri. Missouri wanted to use a new congressional map for November's elections.

The decision did not rule on the map's merits. It also did not permanently invalidate the map.

The map remains stuck between conflicting state and federal court orders. Republicans asked the high court after Missouri's Supreme Court blocked the map.

Missouri's Supreme Court said the state could not use it this year. That court also ordered a public vote on the map.

Republicans drew the map in 2025. It would remove one Democratic-held seat near Kansas City.

Missouri voters will consider the map on November 3 2026. Hours later a federal judge blocked Missouri from using its old maps.

The judge's order was temporary and covers the November elections. Missouri officials said they now plan to use the redrawn map.

This follows losing in two courts and winning in another. The conflicting rulings leave uncertainty over which map Missouri will use.

Klear Note — Congressional maps divide states into voting districts for electing members of Congress. Redrawing lines can change which party has better chances in districts.
