Vatican Shares First Photos of Pope Leo Since Lung Surgery

The Vatican released new photos on Friday. These are the first photos of Pope Leo since his lung surgery.

They show him at Gemelli Hospital in Rome, Italy. He led Mass three days after surgery without any help.

The Vatican said he was recovering. Doctors said tests showed continued improvement.

They also said he could manage normal daily activities on his own. He had surgery at the hospital on October 13.

The operation removed a cancerous tumor from his right lung. The New York Times reported he had been diagnosed.

It was a common form of lung cancer. He is due to deliver the Sunday prayer. This is expected to be his first public appearance since the operation.
