Whale Timmy Swims Free in North Sea
A humpback whale named Timmy is now free in the North Sea. He had been stuck in shallow waters near Germany since March.
Timmy kept beaching himself on Germany's Baltic coast. Two business owners paid for a barge to move him to open sea.
The barge carried Timmy to the North Sea on Saturday. He swam free shortly after.
A GPS tracker was attached before his release to follow his movements. One of the business owners is linked to the founder of electronics shop MediaMarkt.
Klear Note — Humpback whales sometimes swim into shallow coastal waters by mistake. They can get stuck and hurt themselves. Rescue efforts like this help save whales in danger.
