White House Denies Press Entry Despite Judge's Order

Journalists from three news outlets were denied entry to the White House. The outlets were CNN, MS NOW and Politico.

This happened Thursday morning despite a court order restoring their access. President Trump announced a ban on the outlets on Sept.

18. US District Judge Timothy Kelly then ordered access to be restored.

He said the ban was likely unconstitutional. His order lasts 14 days while the case continues.

But journalists were still turned away on Thursday. Lawyers for the outlets asked for an emergency hearing.

They said the White House had repeatedly violated the order. The order required press badges to be returned.

CNN, MS NOW and Politico sued over the ban. They said it violated First Amendment and due-process rights.

Trump said the ban followed reporting he saw as unfair. The administration said White House access is a privilege. It cited professionalism and national security concerns.

Klear Note — A court order is legally binding until a court changes it. An emergency hearing asks a judge to resolve an urgent dispute quickly.
