Wildfires forced leaders to evacuate several areas near Toledo, Spain. Toledo is about 75 miles from Madrid, Spain.

The fire near Almoróx broke out Wednesday. Temperatures there topped 42 degrees Celsius.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez visited Guadalajara, Spain. More than 30 villages were evacuated there.

A separate large fire north of Madrid burned about 32,000 hectares. Wildfires are also burning in southern France and Italy.

In France, thousands were evacuated near Bordeaux and Arcachon Bay. Two firefighters died fighting a blaze near Bordeaux airport.

In Italy, about 6,000 firefighters are battling fires in Sicily. Temperatures in Sicily topped 40 degrees Celsius.

At least three firefighters have died fighting fires across France and Italy. This year wildfires have already burned more land across Europe than usual.

It is more than the yearly average over the past two decades. Europe is bracing for another heat wave.

This new heat is making the wildfire crisis worse. Last year 393,000 hectares burned in Spain. That was the worst toll in Spain's recent history.
