Woman and Baby Die in Statue of Liberty Boat Accident
A boat capsized near Liberty Island in New York Harbor. This happened late Saturday night, August 8.
A nearby boat rescued 12 people from the water. This happened before police arrived, the US Coast Guard said.
Police divers later found a woman and a baby in the water near Liberty Island. The woman was 27 years old.
The baby was 5 months old. Both were taken to a hospital.
They both died there. Their names have not been released yet.
Officials are still investigating what happened. A man was arrested after the boat capsized.
He was charged with reckless endangerment. MSNBC identified him as the boat's captain.
